By profession, a cabinetmaker, industrial arts teacher, and builder, George Hess also painted most of his life. He was born in Heibronn, Germany, and moved to Montpelier, Idaho, in 1902. He came to Salt Lake City about 1910, and studied at LDS University before taking a teaching post at South High School.
