Joseph Alma Freestone Everett was born in Salt Lake City. He was a watercolorist, muralist, and teacher in Utah during the first half of the 20th century. Everett studied with James T. Harwood, John Hafen, and Lee Greene Richards in Salt Lake City. From 1906 to 1908, while serving a mission in England for the LDS Church, he studied at the South Kensington School of Art. He later studied in Paris, and in New York City with the muralist Kenyon Cox. Everett worked for a time as an engineer-draftsman for the Oregon Short Line Railroad, but continued to be a prolific painter. He taught privately, and painted landscape watercolors and genre subjects.
