Delbert Smedley grew up in northern Utah. He received his BFA at Utah State in 1927 and an MFA at the University of Southern California in 1939. Smedley taught art at the University of Wyoming, Utah State University, and the University of Utah. In 1955 he retired from teaching and became the full-time art supervisor for Salt Lake’s Granite School District.
