An artist of Mexican and Basque descent, living in Salt Lake City, Carina Barajas has been interested in drawing and painting from a young age. Early in her career, Carina used oils to speak about self-objectification and anxiety. She recently moved to using acrylics and gouache to paint numerous paintings of her travels to Mexico and her father’s hometown, as well as paintings of her Basque heritage.

Carina enjoys painting landscapes and natural elements that she has seen throughout her travels in Utah and various states. She paints what she is inspired by in the moment, whether it’s vegetables from her garden, fruit from the farmer’s market, figures and faces, or even, scenes from her favorite films. Carina uses various brush and pallet knife painting techniques that enhance the texture and intensity of her work. uses bold strokes of color to establish values in an impressionist-like way.

Carina also works on numerous commission paintings, digital designs, and illustrations for various clients.
