Llajtayku means "our pueblo" in the Quechua language (pronounced ‘yock-TIE-ku’). We play folkloric dance music of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Ecuador, sung in Quechua and Spanish. We play string instruments (guitar & charango), percussion (cajon & bombo), and winds (kena, zampona, tarkas). Our repertoire includes original tunes and classics by Los Kjarkas, Los Jairas, Illapu, and Mercedes Sosa; our variety extends beyond altiplano music to Afro-Peruvian landos, vals criollo, Venezuelan joropo and Afro-Bolivian saya. As a four-piece band we play exciting Andean rhythms like the huayno, cueca, tinku and morenada. As a duo we can play quiet background music on guitar & flute. For Espanol, dirigense a www.rumillajta.com (go to Llajtayku link). We can provide P.A. for small to medium venues.
