Program Assistant: National History Day in Utah

The Utah Division of State History (UDSH) is seeking a Program Assistant for the National History Day in Utah (NHD Utah) program. This is a Temporary Labor (TL) part-time position starting January 2022 and ending in June 2022. The position requires 20-25 hours per week. This position contributes to the mission of UDSH by helping to coordinate and deliver the National History Day program, which helps 4th-12th grade students across the state to develop historical thinking skills and meet core standards for history and social studies education.

This position offers potential for professional growth through varied and challenging activities. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Operate and manage the National History Day competition management system for two or more NHD Utah local contests and the state contest. Training on the system will be provided.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation, and execution of the NHD Utah State Contest. Event planning tasks include preparing materials, making local arrangements, working with partners and vendors, etc.
  • Assist with NHD Utah local contents, including contest management and judging.
  • Assist with preparations for the NHD National Contest.
  • Assist with data gathering, analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with social media and marketing efforts.

Preferred qualifications include:

Upper division undergraduate work or BA degree in history or a related field. Excellent computer skills. Ability to learn and manage databases and information. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently, and meet deadlines in a timely manner. This position may involve in-state travel by car, and out-of-state air travel. The preferred candidate will have the ability to be at ease in these settings and maintain positive relationships with young students, parents, educators, and other stakeholders.
