Utah artists and artist teams are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of public artwork for the new Music Center at Southern Utah University in Cedar City.

The Utah Public Art Program of the Division of Arts & Museums, in association with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management and Southern Utah University, is seeking artists interested in creating site-specific artwork for the new Music Center. The building will provide a fully immersive environment for music instruction, and will anchor north campus as a growing arts district. Located just north of the Southern Utah Museum of Art, and the Utah Shakespeare Festival theaters at the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts, the Music Building will welcome visitors onto campus near 300 West and University Boulevard.

The art selection committee is looking for a Utah artist who is able to augment the experience within the building by creating a work that enhances the carefully designed architectural elements, rather than compete with them. The committee is seeking an artist who will bring a creative, innovative, and original installation to the project that communicates with the surrounding space, allowing viewers to immediately recognize the relationship between the art installation and the facility's purpose.

The art selection committee will be receptive to recommendations for the location of the art installation, with the hope that the artist will use the features of the building to their benefit in providing an impactful audience experience.

The full description and how to apply is available at arts.utah.gov/public-art-opportunities. The deadline for receipt of material from interested artists is 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time on April 19, 2024. Applications may be submitted at CallForEntry.org.
