Dream States, a group exhibition, and Love Is the Message by Eli Kauffman

The Finch Lane Gallery presents two new art exhibitions: Dream States, a group exhibition, and Love Is the Message by Eli Kauffman. When experienced together, these exhibitions share allusions to subconscious dream states and low fantasy. These exhibitions are open to the public from June 24 – August 5, 2022, at 54 Finch Lane. Finch Lane Gallery is open on Tuesdays from 9:30am-8:30pm and Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9:30am-5pm. There will be an artist reception on Friday, June 24, 6-9pm, open to the public.

Samantha DaSilva, Emily Quinn Loughlin, Caitlyn Barhorst, and Hannah Dwertman – Dream States

The artwork in Dream States mimics the flow between passive and active dream states. Soft fiber sculptures and abstract paintings represent the early stages of dreaming and drifting, while more vivid imagery of collaged fantastical scenes and sculptures made of found materials allude to active dream states. The gallery installation will include a comfortable place for visitors to sit and enter their own dream-like state while viewing the work.

Eli Kauffman – Love Is the Message

Through oil paintings and intaglio prints, Eli Kauffman depicts social gatherings of adolescence. The depicted settings are symbolic of pivotal moments of life, such as the choice and chance involved in road trips and tarot readings, which act as metaphors for the complex emotions of adolescence. Kauffman uses bright high-contrast color in their work to create a sense of emotional intensity and urgency. Most of the work is set at nighttime and painted in bright high-contrast other-worldly colors, which give the sense of a fantastical dreamed experience.
