About the book:

When a stranger comes to the home cave, Ruth convinces the Family that his knowledge is more important than the water in his blood. The year is 2135 and the Great Basin is in a deadly drought. What begins as Ruth’s impulse to save the Family ends in a journey to the ocean and a harrowing choice that will either extend the life of the Family (and possibly the earth) or destroy what little hope remains for humanity’s last stand.
