Ever wonder about all of the plants, animals, and insects right in your own backyard? Visit this Nature All Around Us Exhibit, and find out about the nature that thrives in cities and towns all across Utah. At the heart of the traveling exhibit are 43 images from the Show Us Your Nature photo contest which challenged photographers of all levels around the state to capture nature in their communities. Each photo in the exhibit is accompanied by a brief story from the photographer, which provides color and context for the shot captured. Contest images feature creatures in parking lots, cemeteries, golf courses, and sidewalk cracks. But in fact, most photographers snapped a picture right in their own yard. One young photographer explained, “There really are great scenes of nature all around us; we just need to see them.”
In addition to the photography gallery, the Nature All Around Us statewide traveling exhibition includes interactive video components featuring citizen science stories in both English and Spanish. Visitors will learn how, when, and why to use iNaturalist to observe, identify, and record their outdoor discoveries, and understand how using the app contributes to ongoing scientific research.
This bilingual exhibit is traveling throughout Utah and will be at the Ogden Nature Center for a limited time, October 6 – November 19, 2021. The exhibit will be open during our regular hours, 9-5 Mon.-Fri. & 9-4 Sat. in the Visitor Center. Free for members! Regular admission rates apply for non-members.
