This was water is a new musical work by Carey Campbell, WSU professor and Lindquist Creative Fellowship recipient. The piece is intended to bring awareness to the drying of the Great Salt Lake and inspire action to avert this ecological crisis. The instruments used in the piece are flute, clarinet, violin, and cello, which are all at times treated with electronic processing to de-familiarize their sounds. In addition, several movements of the piece are for fixed-media electronics, performed on a laptop and assembled from the soundscape of the Great Salt Lake. Video art will be presented along with the performance, making this an immersive multimedia event.
