Sandra Sandberg and other weavers will present a free Art Conversation on January 16th, 2020 at 7pm.

Why Weave?

“The reasons for weaving are as various as the needs, gratifications and abilities of the weavers, but I believe they boil down to this: essentially we weave because we like to do it, and in a secondary way, because we like to have our own beautiful textiles, made with our own hands, for the greater comfort and seemliness of our lives. We like to throw the shuttle; we like to beat with the batten; we enjoy combining colors and textures and decorative figures to make a brave new fabric

KATIE SHEEN ABBOTT

Choreographer; Dancer; Musician; UDAM Teaching Artist | Katie regularly performs throughout Utah with her cuadro which includes: Jake Abbott (guitar and cante), Sandy Meek (guitar), and Julie Sheen (cajon and palmas). While growing up in Utah she studied jazz, ballet, tap and hip-hop. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland for graduate school she fell in love with Flamenco after taking her first Sevillanas class. She studied with Solange Gomes for several years in Salt Lake City and most recently she lived in Sevilla, Spain where she studied with many flamenco maestros, including Luisa Palacio, Angel Atienza, Isabel Bayon and Javier Baron.
