In the opening scene of Handel’s opera Semele at Westminster College, the immortal god, Jupiter, is a vampire who wreaks havoc on a young girl’s wedding and swoops her away to his vampire lair where he proceeds to kiss and bite her. Although the staging will have a contemporary feel (and will take place in the deep American south), the music will be quintessential Handel!
