The Borderlands Conference Presents Carmen Boullosa, Fernando Flores, Carribean Fragoza, and Manuel Muñoz

Each year, the Guest Writers Series at the University of Utah brings distinguished authors to Salt Lake City. Our goal is to provide our community with an opportunity to engage in a dynamic, educational and inspiring relationship with literature. We aim to bring in a diverse array of voices and perspectives, and to provide a platform for an enriching dialogue between our authors and the audience.

The Borderlands Conference is a bi-annual gathering of four award-winning authors from Mexico and the US, presenting and discussing their creative engagements with the history and culture of the borderlands.

All events are free and open to the public.

Finch Lane Gallery at the Art Barn

Carmen Boullosa is one of Mexico’s leading novelists, poets, and playwrights, and the recipient of numerous prizes and honors, including a Guggenheim fellowship. Boullosa is a Distinguished Lecturer at City College of New York.

Fernando A. Flores was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and grew up in South Texas. He is the author of the collections Death to the Bullshit Artists of South Texas and Valleyesque, and the novel Tears of the Trufflepig. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Carribean Fragoza is a fiction and nonfiction writer from South El Monte, CA. Her collection of stories, Eat the Mouth That Feeds You, was published in 2021 by City Lights.

Manuel Muñoz is the author of a novel, What You See in the Dark, and the short-story collections Zigzagger, The Faith Healer of Olive Avenue, and The Consequences. He currently lives and works in Tucson, Arizona.
