This is not your father’s cello ensemble. Since 2006, the “cello-wielding maniacs” of Portland Cello Project have been bringing the cello to unusual places – from punk rock clubs to symphony halls to street parties – and changing perceptions along the way. With over 1,000 pieces under their bows, this genre-bending string collective can bounce from Bach to Beck without missing a beat. At a performance by Portland Cello Project (or PCP as their fans affectionately call them), you’ll find all sorts: boogie-ing grannies, head-nodding hipsters, budding middle-school musicians, and everyone in between.
