What do you think of when you think of a journey? A favorite trip, moving to a new city, growing up, or maybe an object, something that reminds you of a memory from an important life event? The artwork featured in this one-case exhibition tells stories about a variety of journeys from diverse cultures. Through an exploration of trade and travel, spiritual journeys and telling tales, the inaugural exhibition of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts' new program, the Traveling Museum Project, illuminates the vibrancy of our global cultural landscape intertwined through a common theme of journey stories.
UMFA's Traveling Museum Project is installed in conjunction with the traveling Smithsonian exhibition, Journey Stories, being toured through Utah in 2014-2015. The project installs exhibitions in communities and schools throughout the state of Utah using objects from the Utah Museum of Fine Arts' Education Collection.
