Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

at St. Jude's Episcopal Church

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with some of Cedar’s finest local artists! Join the Cedar City Peace and Justice Coalition, community artists, and guest speaker, Janice Brooks, as they present a cultural experience surrounding the importance of honoring our collective American past for a kinder tomorrow. This year we explore the concept of Sankofa—the tradition of looking back with wisdom and compassion to inform our future. With a showcase of music, dance, and storytelling, we present an important chapter of American History. Make this MLK Day one full of remembrance, acknowledgment, and of new horizons worth exploring.

The event is free and family friendly. Artistic Presentation will begin at 6:00pm and run until 7:00pm with time available afterwards to meet and greet with community artists while exploring visual artwork until 8p.

Guest speaker, Brooks, is a dynamic and engaging speaker, frequently sharing her compelling energy through memorable stories. She is a former public affairs consultant, business executive, community activist, freelance writer and professional storyteller living in Ivins, Utah. At completion of her contract as CEO at southern Utah’s renowned Green Valley Spa, she is devoting her creative energy and passion to compiling a book of personal essays and poems, designing and producing corporate literary and motivational events, and accepting public speaking engagements.

The Cedar City Peace and Justice Coalition is a gathering of individuals and organizations profoundly concerned by the state of peace and issues pertaining to social justice in our modern world. Dedicated to addressing both regional and global challenges, we believe in the power of a community informed, united, and empowered. This event is designed to provide the community with an opportunity to participate with awareness and enjoyment in America’s culture-rich history. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.
