Mother’s Day in Kanab -Family, Fitness and Fun!
Families from all over the state will be in Kanab on Saturday, May 9th for the 28th annual Mother’s Day 10K Race.
The 10K course is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field. It begins at Moqui (Mo-key) Cave just north of Kanab and goes down HWY 89 through the narrow red rock canyon into Kanab and then finishes at the Kanab City Park where each mother will be given a rose from Kanab City Mayor, Robert Houston as they cross the finish line. “We want to honor the mothers and all they do,” said Houston.
A couple of fun new elements will be added this year to encourage more families to participate together: A big award will be given for the family with the most members running in the race, so invite all of your siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Also, strollers will be allowed during the race, so moms and dads can run together with their little ones.
Racers and their families are invited to a pre-race dinner and entertainment during the packet pick-up in Kanab on Friday, May 8th from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m. at the Kanab City Offices 76 North Main St. Dinner is just $5 per person and will be catered by Houston’s Restaurant.
This year will also include a new Craft and Art Fair which will be going on at the Kanab City Park (531 N. 100 E.) where the racers meet and end the race. The fair will go on from 7 a.m. until noon. This will give folks a chance to pick up some fun, unique last-minute Mother’s Day gifts during and after the race for the special mom’s in their lives.
There will be a post-race feast, some fun t-shirts and custom trophies made from sandstone quarried near Kanab for each age division.
Early-bird discounts are available through the end of April. For more information or to register, go to www.Kanab10K.com
