Utah artist Pilar Pasquel del Pobil (Smith) was born in Spain and studied at the Colegio de la Pureza on the island of Mallorca, where she met her husband and then emmigrated Utah. She began her career in art relatively late in life, but has had considerable success, particularly in Utah, where her brightly colored interpretations of her world have been exhibited widely. At first she produced large ceramic sculptures, but now works primarily in oil and acrylic paint. These works often reflect Pobil’s Spanish heritage as well as the influence of Latin American art.
