Born in Salt Lake City, Clayton is one of the strongest abstract modernists in Utah. He received his B.F.A. from the University of Utah in 1973, and went on to receive an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. For several years, he has taught in the art department at the University of Missouri. Clayton’s work has also been seen at many local galleries as well as numerous private collections throughout the United States. Clayton takes a strong interest in color and the abstract placement of shapes.
