Painter, sculptor, and etcher Trevor Southey was born in Zimbabwe, Rhodesia (now Zambia). He studied art at Natal Technical College, Durban, South Africa, the Brighton College of Art, England, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University, where he served as an assistant professor of art from 1969 until 1976. His work is in private, corporate and public collections in the United States and elsewhere, including the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Springville Museum of Art, Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, and the Zambian National Museum in Zimbabwe, and he executed several mural and sculpture commissions for public spaces and corporations in the United States. The Salt Lake Art Center presented a major one-man exhibition of Southey’s work in the summer of 1997, in conjunction with publication by Seagull Publishing of a book on the artist.
