Born in Mesquite, Nevada, Robert Leroy Marshall studied at Brigham Young University, earning a BFA in 1966 and an MFA in 1968. A gifted athlete, Marshall played football for BYU from 1962-65. He taught at Brigham Young University from 1969-2008, serving as Chair of the Department of Visual Arts from 1985 to 1997. Marshall is known as a painter, educator, and documentary filmmaker.
