Born in Salt Lake City, Wright studied at LDS College, the University of Utah, and Brigham Young College (in Logan) from 1892 to 1902, when he made the first of several trips to France. He spent the next two years studying art at the Académie Julian, the Academy Colarossi, and the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts, and exhibited paintings in the important Paris Salon d’Automne in 1903 and 1904.
