Born in New York City, Horne was raised in California and Utah. Horne studied at Yale University and earned her MFA in painting at Indiana University. She is a color-impressionist painter who works in oil, pastel, and watercolor techniques. Her preferred subject matter centers upon both landscape and figurative depiction. She was inspired by her mother, Phyllis Horne, a noted landscape painter, and by her great-grandmother, Alice Merrill Horne, a champion of the arts who founded the Utah Art Institute in 1899 (now the Utah division of Arts and Museums) and who fostered the work of outstanding early Utah Artists.
