Davis was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and earned BFA and MFA degrees from Boston University’s School of Fine and Applied Arts. He taught drawing, painting, and anatomy at the Art Institute of Boston; life drawing and painting at Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts; and basic design, anatomy, and life drawings at Boston University. Before moving to Utah in the mid-1970s he was also a courtroom artist. Once at the University of Utah, he was an important painter, teacher and chair of the Department of Art. He is married to the talented and successful sculptor, Silvia Davis.
