Book Arts Studio

The Book Arts Studio is where aspiring and accomplished bookmakers discover, capture, and create. At more than thirty-five hundred square feet, the studio offers ample room for exploration. From typesetting to printing to binding, a full range of equipment and tools encourages the artisan to engage in the process of bookmaking from beginning to end. The studio houses nearly eight hundred cases of type, more than ten thousand antique photo engravings, and a variety of presses, including three “clamshells,” five cylinder presses, and four table top presses. Additionally, there are eighteen historic miniature presses on display. Book-binding equipment includes a board shear, dry mounting presses, guillotines, and book presses. Uniting traditional printing with the technology of today, the studio is also fully equipped for developing and printing from photopolymer plates.
