Musician - Storyteller - UAC Teaching Artist
About the artist:
2008 Arkansas’s Governor’s Award winner, Zinse Agginie, a native of Ghana has worked in Utah for more than five years with residencies in schools in many parts of the state. Zinse is currently a resident of Arkansas, before which he lived in the UK . In the UK , Zinse majored in Psychiatric Nursing and later studied Graphic Arts Reproduction at the London School of Printing. The pull of the performing arts is strong for Zinse who has written and helped produce a play at the High School and College level. Known as Africa’s ‘Numero Uno Storyteller,’ Zinse’s students become characters in his stories which take them to the savannahs and rain forests of Africa, to the peoples, animals, customs and traditions. Zinse’s enjoys hand drumming and rhythm making and Zinse has recently distinguished himself with a composition called the ‘Drum Ballet,’ a series of rhythms that combine hand and body movements to present a compelling performance piece. The Drum Ballet is highly popular in many states and growing; it was one of the acts at the opening of the WJ Clinton Presidential Library, included in the 2006 film documentary about the ten most effective art programs in US schools and a strong catalyst in bringing the ‘Coming Up Taller Award’ to Arkansas in 2007. The Drum Ballet is an exciting group drumming activity and very effective in corporate team building programs, with high recommendations from corporations that have used Zinse. Zinse comes to each residency with all the necessary drums and his approach in the educational setting is designed to limit stress while supporting previously discussed curriculum goals.
