Call for Artists: Art in the Barn fine art show

Artists are invited to apply for Draper Visual Arts Foundation’s annual Art in the Barn fine art show and sale, which will be held August 25-26 at Draper Park. (Last year, over 1,000 guests visited the show!) The categories are painting, sculpture, photography, and pottery. All interested artists should fill out and submit an Artist Application Form by June 15 to be considered (even if you’ve shown at the event in the past). You can expect a response by June 30. Artists from Utah are encouraged to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of public artwork for the Scott M. Smith Engineering & Technology Building at Utah Valley University (UVU). This project is also open to any professional artists or artist teams. Artists of historically underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply. The new, 185,000 square foot, four story Engineering Building on Utah Valley University’s Orem campus is truly a fusion building that combines Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical engineering with the Computer Sciences, Digital Media, and the University’s Culinary Institute into an active, tech-forward mix of hands-on learning environments that is sure to be the major innovation hub of Utah County. The Art Selection Committee has identified several potential locations suitable for an artist’s interpretation, the Main Lobby, the Student Forum, and the public corridors in the building, but will remain open to other areas as envisioned by the finalist artists. A successful artwork proposal will convey and/or demonstrate principles of engineering and/or technology and may include a sustainability component, either in function or content. Proposed artworks with an interactive element will be prioritized over static installations. The all-inclusive project budget is $166,000. Artists from Utah are encouraged to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of public artwork for the new General Classroom Building at Utah Tech University. This project is also open to any professional artists or artist teams. Artists of historically underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Realizing Utah Tech’s polytechnic vision through a focus on the liberal arts, the 120,000-square foot, four-story classroom building will serve as the southeast anchor for the campus. Along with other General Education classes, the building will house all five departments of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences: Applied Sociology and Criminal Justice; Communication; English; History, Humanities, and Modern Languages; and Psychology. The Art Selection Committee has identified several potential locations suitable for an artist’s interpretation, but will remain open to other areas as envisioned by the finalist artists. Artists should carefully review the building site plans and renderings and consider the unique possibilities afforded by the building’s design. The all-inclusive project budget is $166,000. Manti Courthouse Public Art Call

Utah artists are invited to submit letters of interest and qualifications for the creation of a site-specific exterior sculpture for the new 6th District Courthouse in Manti. Artists working in the counties of Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne will be given special consideration. The project is a partnership of the Utah Public Art Program of the Division of Arts and Museums, in association with the Division of Facilities Construction and Management and Utah’s Administrative Office of the Courts. The building, located on Manti’s historic Main Street, will offer modern amenities, improved security, and increased space not currently provided by the Sanpete County Courthouse. The Manti Courthouse Art Selection Committee has identified an exterior location for art placement to the west of the new courthouse. There will be a public courtyard along Main Street, adjacent to the historic Bishop’s Storehouse. The committee aims for this space to be a community gathering space, with continuous public accessibility. This courtyard space will be designed in harmony with the Classical entablature of the courthouse façade, and the incorporated sculpture should be complementary to the architecture. Artworks within this space should integrate into the design and enhance the traditional forms found in the surrounding area. The committee plans to commission two small-to-medium sculptures or one large sculpture. The ideal artist should be working within the Classical Tradition and have an understanding of Manti’s significance within Utah’s history. Artists are encouraged to consider the history of oolite stone in local architecture and incorporate that into their proposal if chosen as a finalist. The all-inclusive project budget is $115,000. ELIGIBILITY The Ogden’s Arts Festival/ Eccles Art Center Plein Air Quick Draw Competition is open to all regional artists. The Quick Draw Competition will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2023 during the Ogden’s Arts Festival. Original works painted on June 10, 2023 between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. are eligible. Artists may enter more than one surface. Multiple surfaces may be stamped. Only surfaces registered are eligible for the competition and silent auction. Maximum surface size 36” x 36”. Entries must be ready to hang, mounted, or matted and framed and otherwise ready in exhibition condition, ready to sell. TWO DIMENSIONAL WORK, LARGER THAN 21” x 21” WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN CLIP FRAMES. FRAMED WORK MUST IN-CLUDE WIRE OR SIMILAR HANGING SYSTEM. Works will not be accepted with only alligator hard-ware, D-ring, V-ring or keyhole hangers under any circumstance. BOUNDARIES Artists will paint in the vicinity of the Ogden’s Arts Festival (Wall Avenue to Jefferson Avenue between 24th and 26th Streets). Please no parking at Union Station as the festival is using the Union Station ground. WORKING PERIOD June 10, 2023 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. REGISTRATION & STAMPING Registration and Stamping will occur on the Eccles Art Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. Stamping will close at 11:00 a.m. Participating artists will provide their own surfaces which must be stamped before beginning the work. Stamping serves as a contest verification for when the surface is returned. Works must be framed and wired for hanging in exhibit condition, ready to sell. Participants will return works to Ogden’s Art Festival at Union Station. The Eccles Art Center’s Quick Draw booth will be inside the station near the gallery. FEES FEES: $25.00/ ADDITIONAL ENTRIES: $10.00/ entry Participants may have multiple surfaces stamped at the time of registration for the fee of one entry. Additional fees will be charges if you decide to turn in more than one surface. All fees are non-refundable, even if the original surface is unfinished. Entry fees are used for prize money and publicity. Call to Artists: A Taste of Art

A Taste of Art is an art show and sale to benefit the Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture. Located in Cedar City, Utah, Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture is a 501c3 whose mission is to promote and advocate for the exposure, education, and success of urban and rural farms and ranches throughout Utah. We are seeking artists in all media to represent farming and farm life through their art. Art must be farm related, but can include people, animals, landscapes, crops, farm events, etc. Artists will be invited to work en plein air at selected farms throughout Utah. The schedule of farms hosting artists to paint onsite (and suggested time frames) will be provided. We are scheduling farm/ranch specific access starting in April 2023 through February 2024, allowing artists to capitalize on the beauty of all four seasons in Utah. Artists are not required to paint en plein air and may create from their own farm inspiration as they find it throughout Utah. Organizers of the event will select the art to be included in the show. Participating artists are asked to donate a work of art in support of Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture. Artists will receive 50% of the sale amount with 50% going to the Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture. Of course, if you would like to donate your art fully or take a lesser percentage with a larger portion going to Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture, that would do much toward the ongoing mission of the Center. Art can be valued at any price range, but in an effort to offer affordable art to event patrons, we are suggesting artists’ donations be valued no more than $1200. Event coordinators will set the final price of the art with consideration of the artist’s suggested retail value of their donation. Any unsold art will go back to the artist. All flat art is to be framed, simply and economically, so as not to inflate the retail value of the piece too greatly. A Taste of Art event will also feature food and drink purveyors from Utah to include farmers, chefs, wineries and distillers — all of whom will donate certain portions of their offerings toward the event. A Taste of Art will take place at Snuck Farm, in Pleasant Grove, UT. Snuck Farm will donate the use of their facility for this event. Many other supporters of the Red Acre Center for Food and Agriculture’s are donating their time and expertise to this event as well. Timelines: Applications are open through June 2023.
