For the past fifty years, Box Elder County, Utah, has been home to the world’s most iconic earthwork, Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty. In the late 1960s, innovative artists began to venture outside of urban art centers to create monumental sculptures, called earthworks or Land art, in the remote landscapes of the American West.
