Explore Egyptian mummies and what DNA extraction can tell about their lives with Scott Woodward, microbiologist and molecular biologist specializing in genetic genealogy and ancient DNA studies.

The topic of this event is “Using DNA analysis to unravel Roman period Egyptian mummies.”

This lecture will be a look at how DNA was used to identify relationships, both ancient and to modern populations, of a set of mummies from the Fayoum of Egypt.  It will discuss how we recovered the ancient DNA and the types of molecular analyses that we used to answer these questions.  It will also discuss how this project became the beginning of a project to connect DNA from modern populations of the world.
