Sterling Poulson, music director and conductor of the Days of ’47 KUTV Pops concert since 1997, invites you to join the Choral Arts Society of Utah and the West Valley Symphony of Utah, for two great nights of fabulous music!
A special feature at this year’s Pops Concert will be a performance of selections from Utah Composer Crawford Gates’ Promised Valley. Soloist Tyler Oliphant, featured several times with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as well as a regular soloist with Utah Symphony, and Soloist Megan Phillips Cash who made her debut with the Utah Opera in their 2010 production of Gianni Schicchi in the role of Lauretta, will be featured in this performance as well as narrator Kent Norton, a former TV Weatherman on KSL.
In addition, the choir and orchestra will perform well-known Patriotic and Broadway favorites, including a salute to our men and women in uniform. Featured as our special guest this year is Utah’s own Salzburger Echo.
Salzburger Echo Brings the Alps to their audiences, playing Old World and contemporary folk music from the alpine regions of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, featuring Swiss cowbells and harmony yodeling. Together since 1992, they are one of the most sought after Alpine bands in the nation. Festivals such as Snowbird’s Annual Oktoberfest (Snowbird, Utah) invite Salzburger Echo to perform year after year because of their high-energy showmanship, their outstanding musicianship and their cunning wit.
Under the direction of Donny Gilbert, the West Valley Symphony of Utah performs four to five concerts each year. As a member of the West Valley City Cultural Arts Board, their concerts are always free and held at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. They continue to perform with the Choral Arts Society for the KUTV Holiday Pops Concert and are a regular attraction at West Fest and the World Stage Summer Concert series.
Now in its 29th year, The Choral Arts Society of Utah 110-voice mixed choir is based in Salt Lake City. Many of their performances are free, including their annual Armed Forces Day Concert, and Days of ’47 Pops Concert, while others are benefit concerts, including the Holiday Pops Concert, benefitting the Salvation Army Angel Tree. See a complete listing of the choir’s upcoming performances at www.casu.org or follow them on Facebook. For more information call: 801.363.9708 or email: spoulson@comcast.net
