The Bountiful Davis Art Center invites musicians to participate in an 88-hour piano-playing relay marathon to be held over Memorial Day weekend (Friday May 22 – Monday May 25). The 88-hour marathon is a celebration and fundraiser for a new grand piano for the beautifully renovated Bountiful Davis Art Center's new location at 90 N. Main Street in Bountiful.
"We are excited for this event," said Emma Dugal, Executive Director of the Art Center, "and we invite everyone to participate, either as a performer or as a member of the audience." Musicians at all levels, playing any acoustical instrument (no amplification), including voice, are welcome to sign-up and play/perform during the weekend. Pianists will be playing on a Steinway Grand Piano generously provided for this event by Daynes Music of Murray Utah.
"The biggest question we are asked is why 88 hours?" Dugal said, "the answer is that we are working hard to raise enough money to purchase a Steinway Grand Piano. There are 88 keys in a modern grand piano, so 88 hours of continuous piano playing and music seemed to fit perfectly." The event begins at 6:00 am Friday and will conclude at 10:00 pm Monday.
Participants are encouraged but not required to gather pledges for their performance time. Dugal remarked, "We encourage participants to fundraise, but we also want to invite all to celebrate our newly renovated Art Center located in downtown Bountiful in a festival of music. We extend a warm welcome to everyone." The public is invited to the Art Center anytime during the weekend to listen to music performed on The Lenora Ford Brown Recital Stage at Bountiful Davis Art Center.
