The White Mesa Bear Dance and Pow Wow are two Native American traditional events staged side by side. The Spanish first recorded the Bear Dance in the 1500’s and the first Pow Wow, which was a religious service through dance, was recorded by the English in 1646. The Pow Wow was revised in 1804 to become a intertribal event accompanied by music, dancing, trading and competitions. It showcases many traditional native arts, dances, food and music.
